Hello there! was created by ByTheSeaside
Just joined & thought I'd better say hello!
I'm a crofter in the Hebrides, right by the sea. You can smell when it's going to be bad weather because so much salt comes in a wave of air in front of the rain, that the wind smells salty for an hour or so before it actually rains.
Just waiting for delivery of a Jimny van conversion. It's being Waxoyled this week, before I even bring it here. I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to keep corrosion at bay for as long as possible. A neighbour suggested squirting WD40 in the nooks & crannies now and then but I don't know if that would dissolve the waxoyl back off again, would it? Any better ideas anyone? I've got a pressure washer. Can I over wash it? How often would you re-waxoyl it? (Yeah, I know - move house- but that's not an option!
Also, insurance. Wondering if I've shot myself in the foot. Is taking the back seats out & fitting standard Suzuki dog guard done by a Suzuki main dealer classed as a modification, & will that hike the insurance?
Well that was a long hello! Going for a look round the site now!

welcome to the forum sounds like a great place to live apart from the salt, loads of people with great knowledge on here about underselling stuff etc sadly for you I'm not one of them
are the rear windows blanked out then? you might need a specialist insurer if your going to insure it as a van??
when does it arrive ? don't forget to get some pics uploaded

Hi, thanks for the reply.
The rear windows aren't blanked out but there's a guard (standard Suzuki one) behind the front seats and the back is boarded and a thick rubber mat over the board. They're leaving the windows as they are and leaving the rear seat belt mounts, so it can go back to a car easily if I ever want to sell it. Not sure if that's a "modification" or not. I want to insure it cheaply (obviously!) but on the other hand I don't want them to wash their hands of me after an accident on the grounds that I didn't tell them everything.

if the seats are out then its been modified in the eyes of the insurers if the seats are still in and the board goes over them then i would say its ok to insure as a standard jimny

I was looking at this
