Hi, seen a few sites....mostly Ozzy recommending spreading the engine with Inox MX3 to protect / make it easier to clean. Doesn't seem you can get hold of it in the UK, is there anything folks use? closest I guess is WD40 but not so sure about that.

WD40 will just evaporate.

Probably Scottoiler fs365 (water soluble motorbike preservative) is closest

acf-50 might do

I've actually got half a bottle of fs365, I might try spraying it on my engine to see what happens.....

www.scottoiler.com/uk/products/scottoiler-fs-365.html

FS 365 is a blend of mineral oil, surfactant, anti – corrosion additives and water, which forms a stable micro solution. This forms an effective layer of protection against corrosion, clinging to all surfaces and building up over time with each application. FS 365 is water soluble and readily biodegradable which further helps when it comes to cleaning as any dirt which sticks to the FS layer is easily washed away.

Try ACF50. It's a product they use for aircraft and we use it on our bikes.
Works best with a thinly applied coating. For large areas just soak a rag in a plastic bag and squeeze off the excess then just wipe over the area. For tricky stuff just spray in to a jar and apply with small paint brush.
Similar to the Scottoiler FS365 just better stuff in my opinion.
DO NOT USE WD40 around rubber parts. It will attack the rubber

If in doubt ...... Flat out ??

The scottoiler stuff is water soluble, so you wash the bike and the dirt lifts off, then you reapply.

ACF50 repels water, so although it stops corrosion, I find it mixes with dirt and you have to use degreaser to get it off.

I use JL69 inside switchgear now in preference to acf50, smells just like that miracle water displacer from the 90s that you sprayed your mains inspection light socket with and took the bulb out live underwater without dropping dead. (I tried sticking the empty socket in a bucket of water and it didn't blow any fuses)
