For mud i would use Malatesta Kaiman.
If you do a lot of road miles, Maxxis trepedors. (BFG,s if you have deep pockets) :)
This is assuming running standard size.

Have a look at some of the Jimnys on here to decide how far you want to go.

A 2" lift and 215 / 75 / 15 tyres is a good start and the tyres are not so big so as to cause you problems with gearing BUT if you think you are likely to want to modify it more for more extreme off roading than some gentle greenlaning you need to get at least a 3" lift and look at 235/75/15 tyres or bigger with a Rocklobster low ratio transfer box and the mods listed by Supergaz above!

Decide where you want to end up in order that you buy things like suspension once only. It's not cheap!

Just go out and play in the mud! Make sure you've got some recovery points for if you get stuck.

Those tyres look like 235/75 R15s. They are quite big for standard gearing, so you may find you are slipping the clutch a lot and struggling on steeper climbs. A rocklobster will fix that.

If you are in a rocky area fit a transfer case guard to give it a bit of protection.
