Any thoughts on preventative measures to minimize the dreaded onset of rust on a brand new Jimny.. Of course I cannot paint etc.. (warrantee issues) but could blob some grease or protectives here and there... answers on a postcard.. (sorry Blue Peter moment there) answers will be gladly received as the green meanie is going to be a keeper

Unless you plan to keep it more than 10 years I'd say don't bother with anything more than a good wash underneath in the spring once the gritters have gone back in their sheds.

I was wondering where the dreaded rust bug manages to infiltrate the rear boot panels and if there is any way of ensuring rust does not start under the plastic panels on the doors etc...

If the boot's still made in the same manner you'd need to strip the seats and carpets out remove all the sealant on the inside and pour a penetrative cpc like dinitrol Av 8 into all the joints and then reseal.

There are companies like
www.before-n-after.co.uk/
I would only do so if you plan on keeping it long term as has been said. Otherwise you're paying for the future of the car long after you sold it on!

I'd tend to do something because if you like the car a lot you could very well keep it longer than you expect.
