Hi, this is my first post so I hope I have the right place. I have jut bought my first Jimny 2002 standard model with four spoke mag wheels. I want to use it for off-road fishing trips were I have to drive along a stretch of beach that is very loose, very deep shingle. The car also has to double up as a road car for my 19 year old daughter to use when she is back from uni. What mods would you guys suggest ? I had been using the wifes ford ranger but that just sank to its axles in the gravel......

Welcome to the forum First thing to do would be to check with your insurance company to see if they cover mods and your daughter can still drive it with any sort of modifications

You shouldn't need to upgrade anything at-all, at least not before you've tried it. The 500kg weight saving compared to a Ranger will make the biggest difference.

i've driven mine uphill in lose gravel the size os limes, up to lose boulders the size of mellons, completely stock aside from some mud terrain tires and had no issue at all. just kept it going as slow as possible so it wouldn't project big stones, but aside from that, it was perfectly fine

For sand and deep gravel i would loose some air from the tires to have a wider contact with the surface you are driving upon. Keep a steady slow speed and try to keep your momentum for every obstacle, this together with some good offroadtyres will get you very far on sand and all sorts of gravel !
You just need to buy a good 12 V. compressor put it on a 3 gallon airtank so you can pump your tires back to normal for road use.
For example a 12 V. 150 PSi T-Max around 85 £, a aluminium 3 gallon air tank with all the needed components around 100 £.
