Fitting a Rocklobster to VVT Auto Jimny was created by Shabeen
Guys,
Am in the process of buying a Jimny. Told the wife it was a station car, but primary driver is getting out with my son and seeing less trodden parts of the county (am in Surrey if anybody is local, would love to catch up).
So question. After going through lots of threads and research and have essentially decided I want an auto. I previously had a monster land cruiser with 35" tyres and spent my life wishing for an auto. The auto to have seems to be the auto that comes with VVT cars (post 2005) as this has the electronic transfer case and so has the ability to lock in gear for down hill driving.
I want to go 235/75/15 tyres with Arab lockers front and rear. As such, I expect I will need to lower the hearing in the transfer case. I have read that fitting a rock lobster to a manual vvt is very hard, does this also apply to the auto box? Do I even need to worry about changing the box if I have a an auto, on here I read that the hearing in the VVT boxes is actually already very low

Fitting a rocklobster isn't that hard?...
One box bolts out, and another one bolts back in, assuming you have all the relevant props etc needed -
Using a Rockwatt cradle to position the SJ (rocklobster'ed) transfer box, it's just a matter of fitting the right props in place, a small intermediary SJ prop from the Jimny gear box to the SJ box (fitted with a 12mm prop spacer), retain the Jimny front prop, and swap the rear for a front SJ prop...
Everything you need to mount one is here -
www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/jimny/rockwatt...jimny/prod_1183.html
Including the Speedo conversion, which is spot on for 235 75's...

Ok, so no difference between pre and post 2005 cars (cars with stick vs push button transfer cases)? I thought I read here that was not possible to put rock lobster into electronic transfer case cars

I'm sure someone posted a couple of days ago that there's a plate over the original hole for the transfer case lever?
Have a look under the carpet, or shine a torch up from below...
... they wouldn't have changed the transmission tunnel manufacturing process? They'd have just fitted a plate over the hole for the manual stick?

Yes there is a plate.
Yes it can be fitted.
A bit of wiring to do too get the dash light and vacuum hubs to work.
Check gearbox, diff and your choice of transfer boxes to work your ratios out
If you buy a vvt auto and do swap the transfer box I'd be interested in buying it
