hello all, further to my plan to fit a non vvt gearbox to my 2008 jimny,on making enquiries about availability of a 2005,non vvt box, from a dohc engine jimny,I was told by the resident fitter/dismantler,that no way in his opinion, would there be enough room for the box to physically fit, when I told him that people had actually done this conversion,he insisted that even allowing for the different propshaft, and modified rear mounting, that it wouldn't go in,and that if I went ahead with the purchase,it wold be at my own risk, and they would not take the gearbox back .So for now,I have dropped that idea.not sure if he thought the bellhousing would be too big.Just how many different types of Jimny gearboxes are fitted???Seems like the only way is t either buy a recon box,or have my existing one repaired.any comments?/
Your fitter is wrong. The gearbox bolts straight to the vvt engine. The rear mount needs making and then reverse light wiring. You need the full gearbox including linkage including remote and mounting bracket. But as said before the ratios are poor with retaining the push button transfer
I fitted the m13a r7me box in without having to take the exhaust off, just took the front prop out for a bit more space.
The guy I did the work for has his old r72 vvt box for sale but I didn't drive the car prior to the work so don't know it's condition. However the box was dry and was only removed to fit the rock lobster for gearing.
