Thought I'd see what the headlights were like round the fields, having never driven the Jimny in the dark before. They're OK but in long grass, I really need some spotlights higher up.
Anyway, I'd forgotten that the trench that was dug for a drainage pipe wasn't completely filled in and although I approached it at an angle, I ended up with one wheel down it. Now, as I said, I'd driven over it at an angle with the nose pointing to the right. The nearest tree was some distance away but to the left. Fortunately, my winch cable just reached and although the tree was over a ditch that I'd recently deepened with a digger and overgrown with brambles, I managed to get the strop around it. I didn't have any gloves with me.
Slipping and sliding my way back to the car in the rain, I attached the winch controller and started spooling in. Unfortunately, the angle that the car was at meant that it just started tipping over. I tried turning the wheels to the left (towards the tree) but due to the narrow trench, they were stuck pointing right.
Long story short, I managed to get it out after about half an hour and a lot of revving. Dread to think what it will look like in the morning and my wife wasn't too impressed with the state of my best trousers.
I suppose in retrospect I could have walked to the barn and got the Hi-Lift jack or just left it until the morning but what's the point of having a winch if you can't use it occasionally?

I feel for you!
When I had my first Jimny I left it standard and got stuck on the smallest ruts in the world. I had to dig my way out with a flat headed screw driver and took several layers of skin off the palm of my right hand in doing so.
I got it out eventually but it was not a fun experience.
This was 11am and I was due to be at work about 45 miles away at 14:00.
I did get to work shaved and showered!
It's all fun and games!

And take a camera with you next time. Would have been fun (for us) to see the pics

You wouldn't have seen much, it was dark and I don't have spotlights, remember! I'll take some photographs of the damage shortly...
