Door Card & Internal Handle Removal/replacement was created by Tadpole
I bought a pair of S/H replacement Door Cards back last year so thought time to get cracking.
I have also added just a little bit of bling to the ‘old girl’ just to let her know I care ….
I don’t think there is a ‘How 2’ for this straight forward job also required when installing remote locking to older Jimnys.
(copied with edits from suzuki4u)
Remove the screw holding the inner release handle surround in place.
Slide the whole thing forward towards the hinge end, there are two locating lugs that need releasing.
Once shifted to the front, the handle unit will pull away from the door, attached to a steel rod. The two are linked by a green fastener.
Holding the rod tight with thin-nosed pliers release it from the handle (may need a little brut force).
Next, remove the plastic rivet close to the hinge end of the door panel.
Do this by gently pressing the centre piece inwards. It will click, and depress by about 3mm. (If you push to hard, the centre piece may fall through, and you will have to hunt around inside the door for it later.)
Withdraw the rivet, and move the centre piece so that it pokes out the OTHER side of it, ready to go back in place when you press on it.
Remove the screw covers on the large door handle. Remove the screws then handle.
Unscrew the door locking knob, (optional) and cover the thread on the steel rod that is under it with some tape. This will prevent snagging later.
Pull the bottom of the door card away from the door (use some grunt).
It is held in place with7 press studs. Be sure to set all of these back in place when you are done or replace.
Once all of the studs are free, carefully manipulate the panel upwards. I found from the rear first best. The top is hooked over a lip on the windowsill.

The card is now free, but take care not to pull at the electric window switch wires. Remove the plug at the end of the wires from the door panel. The plug has a barb, which a thin screwdriver (or a pain resistant thumb) will hold down. The plug is stubborn, but will come out with a bit of brute force.
When replacing the door panel, take care not to snag the door locking knob's rod.
Ensure window switches work before you do the rest.
Thump the card studs into place with your fist (easy), then replace the two big screws in the big handle first. Make sure that these are tight.
Replace the rivet, and press the centre piece home to lock it in place.
Grip the steel rod for the release handle with pliers, extend it and hook the handle unit back on to the handle (Basically, reverse the order of events).
Re-fit the screw that holds the unit in place.
Put the lock knob top back on.
Check operation of window switches and door release again.
That's it.
