As well as generally being more economical, it seems from some of these claims that the post 2005 has a bigger fuel tank?

I guess some people's idea of a 'full tank' (or rather, empty tank) is very different to others then.
I get 190 miles if I fill it up when it reaches the last bit of the gauge, 215 miles if I wait until it's at the very bottom of the gauge and 230 miles if I drive until it first cuts out. I can then nurse it an extra mile or 2 from there with it cutting out on corners and hills, until it's truly empty and won't start...

If you want a more accurate answer, I get 30mpg in day-to-day driving, down to 26 on short runs and even less towing. measured by zeroing the milage from full tank to full tank.

See I thought it was a 35 litre tank! Maybe my fuel gauge is faulty and I'm filling up too soon?! Know there's no fuel light on a pre 05 so didn't want to risk breaking down.
Tempted to run it dry but I thought that can cause some damage?

I often run mine dry- In the summer because I don't tax it and just use it around the farm, I just fill it up from a jerry can. It's always on the bottom of the gauge and often runs out. I've never had an issue.

People will say it sucks up all the muck from the bottom of the tank, but the fuel is drawn from the bottom of the tank anyway and there is a filter to trap the muck if there even is any. It's just an old wives tale really!
