All good engines really, soft tops are single cam same as the early hard tops and gave a cam belt. Soft tops are not much good, the removable hardtop us a prized add on, go for a hard top car in the first place.
Early Jimny are prone to rust being a few years old now but they are cheaper road tax, £125 ish as opposed to £230 ish for post 2001 cars I think. Check I the boot where the jack goes for rust and also under the back seats at the edges and around seatbelt mountings.

I think given a lift kit and mud tyres you might find it tiring over 30 miles every day I'm afraid, they are great round town but frustrating on dual carriageways and motorways, and the same on single carriageways when you are stuck behind slower cars and unable to overtake - was certainly my experience when mine was a daily driver. Awesome fun off road and extremely capable , causes huge grins :)
