How do I remove my roof rail caps? was created by NineCherries
As per title, how do they come off? I'd like to pop the caps off to measure the location of the fixings but be able to refit them again so I don't want to damage them
Any advice / pics would be appreciated

prise appart from underneath at the rail side then work your fingers along the length of the cap pulling and lifting carefully, caution though as any cracks or weakness in the cap will cause it to shatter .... :pinch:
M8 studs and nuts - 10mm spanner
this should save you having to take them off to measure

That's the business.
That's what I wanted to find out, thanks v much.
I'm debating making stronger rails to replace the originals and allow me to clamp on my bars and not worry about the 30kg rail limit
Or
to manufacture a complete rack that bolts onto the roof and give me a cargo platform
Or
Buy a larger alloy basket and modify that to bolt onto the roof.
It's all down to cost in the end so I best get planning

yeh, I'm making something stronger,
those are the feet onto which I've 1 inch dia tube x 3 inch long to weld on,
then welded on rails, then close the rails at the front and back
(a square/ rectangle frame, which will stay on all the time.)
then as required a basket/framework will simply bolt onto the frame
don't worry it actually sounds better in my head than the description I've given above :silly:
will post details soon as just waiting for a nice day and some spare time to get the MIG out
