Nidderdale AONB to be exact, I don't think its a wildy exciting route but I'm not sure till I see. My brother made it down in a Defender 90 with road tires (no diff lock) and was followed by a Range Rover (new AWD type) on all terrain tires.

maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=54.175749,-1.87...m=1&t=m&z=16&iwloc=A

Its a lane that runs NW up from Lofthouse/Middlemore to Scar House reservoir.

I'm planning on heading up there this weekend, (not sure which day) with my brother, his son and my girlfriend. I'm taking the camping stove and a tea pot for when we get to the end, I fully appreciate if the adrenalin junkies want to move onwards and upwards from there to more difficult routes - I'm just touring really, it will be my first time (bar today when I chickened out of a bit of mud! mainly as I was alone, and didn't take a spade!)

All the best,

Russ

Last time I was up there the information board at the reservoir was showing that lane as a bridleway however the new landranger is suggesting it's an orpa I would suggest having a look at the definitive map if I were you.

Ok just had a look and according to the council it's a footpath.

maps.northyorks.gov.uk/connect/?mapcfg=Out_and_About

search for Middlesmoor and click on the map over the blue line for the lane. It has the caviat of being the online version and not the actual dm but it's quite clear on the status.

I think I may have been half asleep this morning. When I look properly the lane is a boat. Sorry for any misunderstanding, it was early and I was sleep deprived.

No worries, I'm pretty sure its a boat!

Anyone up for it this Sunday?

As I said, I'm not sure how exciting it will be, I'm hoping this will be ideal for first timers and unmodified vehicles with good tires - or at least enough people with good tires to tow in the unlikely even that someone gets stuck.

It would be really great to have someone with a bit of experience just in case we're doing things wrong!

I nipped out last night with my bro and we picked up a stunning low mileage GV1600, so there is 2 of us now at least, one to pull out the other :P :P
