I am struggling a little with working out what makes the best buying option for a 'tirfor' hand winch.

It appears that the ones that are made in Germany are branded Yale / Trac (Columbus McKinnon)

However there are also ones sold under the brand names T-Max and Arb Magnum. Are either of these going to be copies made in the far East (Ningbo Lianjian machinery co ltd) rather than the original European type?

They also seem to come in 800, 1600 and 3200kg capacity. What's the best for the jimny? 1600 seems optimal, but I stand by to be corrected.

T-max and ARB are both reputable brands and I would be happy with either. As for capacity there are equations for working out the forces required but a good rule of thumb is 2.5 times the weight of the stuck vehicle
