Hi,
I'm a new member and new jimny owner from Croatia.
Previous to jimny I had hyundai galloper and even with long off-roading experience, jimny is something quite different and new to me. Previous to my purchase there were 4 jimnys in my hometown. Two of them had T-case issue due to unprotected wires that were easily stripped by some fern and watles. Therefore I have mounted a t-case skid/guard plate.
But, as I live in strong winter conditions I noticed that this skid was a nice snow collecting pit and even with holes drilled, snow would not melt.
This spring I was off-road and found out that there was a huge bunch of ferns and grass stuck under the plate and in it's holes. Fortunately grass was wet. Otherwise jimny could flare up easily. And this happened few times by now. Unwilling to take a risk of flame, two days ago I took the plate off. (I have to say, this t-case skid was made by local tinsmith who copied ideas from the internet).
So, now I am seeking for help and an advice. Can someone, please, tell me some other solution how to protect a t-case? Do you have a t-case skid that is well constructed and doesn't serve as a waste tank? Any ideas?
Thank you, Mirko.

I don't know of any alternative ones for sale.
What about a simpler design that just had strong metal tube running infront and behind the transfer case, but no plate between them? It would provide the same protection going forwards and backwards as a 'skid' with more gaps to stop trash collecting. The bottom of the transfer case would still be exposed if you land perfectly on a rock though
The other option is add more metal to make the skid into a bucket that goes high up the front and the back, making it harder for stuff to get in. But if stuff did get in, it would be very hard to get it out too...

Off the shelf they all look roughly the same, unless you get elaborate like busta said. After a good offroad session get under there with a hand brush and clean it out

Thanks. I'm considering geting a new one, maybe ordering one online. But if I do so, I want to make sure that this new plate is the right one. There are too many variations online. Hard to decide which one is the best. If any of you has a good experience with it, and having no problems with snow and grass, please, let me know.

I've had a ASFIR skid under the Jimny from day 1. We do get some snow around here (germany), and I've been snow wheeling in Norway 3 years in a row. Yes, snow gets trapped there - but so what? I have never had a problem, and the snow will melt in the spring......
And how would trapped grass flare up? the transfer case doesn't get THAT hot. No way it would cause sticks and grass caught there to catch fire. So I really don't see a problem there.
