I couldn't coment on the 28.5 to 29.5 but I know my 29.5s were a killer on the gearing and wouldn't do that again if I got second jimny with out rocklobster I think I would stick to smaller and spend the money else were and theres the extra strain on the cvs wheel bearing and halfshafts etc to think about, it mite just be abit worse on gearing but then also worse on wear on bearings cv etc which all adds up to big cost really in te long run for a extra 1/2 inch clearance

Good idea

Remember, big tyres are not the holy grail of offroading. It's better to learn to drive offroad on relative small tyres, than to have massive 33" tyres and thinking that gives you excellent driving skills.
I would any day prefer 215-325/75/15 tyres and a lockright difflock over 31-33" tyres. Going taller also raises COG, making it less stable. Also, with smaller tyres you don't need a 4" suspension lift and a bodylift.

back to the original question.... it depends how much road / off road you are going to do and the sort of off road you plan to tackle.Bigjim91 wrote: I may be purchasing a set of mud tyres soon the next size up, 235/75/15, opinions pleaseee
i've been running insa turbo dakar. they are a bfg km pattern copy. very good off road and good manners on road. i've just had a set of new insa turbo sahara fitted. they should clear mud better and are even better on road.
i go green laning every week and have other total off road trips and i know i won't need anything more aggressive. but i don't do pay and play days.
just bear in mind that a tyre that "looks the business" may not suit what you need. friends of mine have gone for very aggresive tyres and regret it as they are not good on road.
standard jimny - for now
