Hi

I thought it would be nice to upgrade my standard 05 reg Jimny with front fog lights and with this in mind looked for someone on Ebay breaking one that has them as standard. I was lucky enough to find someone willing to sell me the lights and switch for a reasonable price and rather than pay the local garage to fit them, thought I'd like to have a go myself, although my knowledge is extremely limited. That's where I'm hoping BigJimny forum comes to the rescue.

This is what I bought

Luckily I found that when I took the blank out covering the hole on the dash where the front fog light switch fits there was the connector ready and waiting

Plugged it in and hey presto! it lighs up when I press it, but when I looked for the other end of this I found a similar connector with 5 wires which I assume connects to the lights themselves.

This is where I need help as my set up only has 3 loose ends

The red wire is fused so I assume is the live connection. This and the whte wire both seem to go to a relay.

The third wire which is black I assume to be the earth lead.

Can anyone tell me

1. Where the 5 wires from the connector go to (colour by colour would be good) on a car that has fogs fitted as standard.

2 What do I do with my 3 wires to get the lights working.

3 How best to remove the blanking plates. Looks like I need to take off the bumper. If anyone has done this and has some tips about how to remove the blanks and fit the fogs in place I'd be most grateful.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers.

Cant help you with the fogs, but bumper is easy B) have a look on the ORA website for the instructions for fitting the hidden winch plate - full instructions as to how to remove it :) :) and you'll soon be able to fit the fogs

The bumper is easy enough to remove - just a few bolts from memory. Once the bumper is off you will need to cut out the fog lamp blanks. I did this using a jigsaw, making the holes slightly smaller than they needed to be and then used a dremel type tool to get the hole nice and smooth and the right size. The fog lamps I got were secondhand genuine Suzuki Jimny fogs still mounted to their brackets. Again, from memory, there were a couple of plastic psots on the back of the bumper that the brackets just screwed in to. I can't tell from your photo if it has the right bracket or not, but if it doesn't you should be able to make something up with some metal strap.

To me, the wiring loom doesn't look like genuine OEM Suzuki wiring. Looking at the wiring going to the relay, the red wire is 12V +ve from the battery on one side and 12V +ve to the fog lamps. The black wire is an Earth, and the white wire therefore needs to be a switched 12V +ve. From your picture that labels the wires 1, 2 & 3 I think it looks like the red and black should probably hook up direct to the battery, and the white one needs to be hooked up to a source that gives a 12V live only when your foglamp switch is on. I took a feed from the lighting wire on the stereo loom up to my switch for this purpose. Suzuki wire the Jimny up with switched earths rather than switched lives.

I would advise careful use of a multimeter to see if any of the wires in the Suzuki wiring plug you pictured work as a switched live. If you're really not sure of what you're doing you might be better off geting an auto-electrician to get them wired up for you.

The white wire goes in the wiring loom behind the battery nearest to the bulk head or wind screen there should be a single white wire test it first to see if you have a live feed when the button is pressed

the red one is battery live
the black one is body earth put that on the inner wing near the battery or near the head light
The other wires go to the lights

Thanks for the advice guys, That's some very useful information. I'll get the multi-meter out next Saturday and give it a go.
