I have a business that turns VW T5 vans into campers and we usually change the seats for something more stylish! Golf Mk4 seats have weird subframes and are a bloody nightmare to adapt to fit into even the simplest car.. try BMW Mini, Porsche, Audi Mk1 TT or any ford seat as they have simple flat rails that you can weld brackets on.. our current personal VW camper has Yellow and Black leather from a Mk3 Toyota Mr2 and these were so easy to fit
as an alternate we have fitted the '£200 a pair sports seats' you see on ebay and they are not that bad.. you just have to fabricate the seat belt mounts.. like these:
My Jimny is having Blue and Black Leather from a Ford Sport Ka - hopefully this weekend!
