Hi all. I'm new to your forum and would just like to say hello and pick your brains if i may. I've had a 2001 Jimny for 3 months now and done a few jobs on it with the help of your guys knowledge though this forum. The jimny is truly a Marmite motor, Yes i love marmite. Now to my question, Has anybody put 215-75-15 tyres on a standard road Jimny and would they bring the revs down on the cruising speed ? i,e at the mo at 55mph it's 3000 revs, would they drop with larger tyres and by approx how much? I do 530 mile round trips 5 times a year and the thought of that little engine screaming it's head off is putting me off. p.s speed is not an issue, i would be happy at 60 on the motorway if the revs where 3000rpm. Hope you can help,

205/70/15 tyres are 26.3" or 668mm
215/75/15 tyres are 27.7" or 704mm
difference in diameter 5.39% or 36mm
should bring the revs down but will slow speedo down by 5.39%

Thanks for the reply, any idea how that would work out in RPM to Speed? I've searched the net and come back with the same maths as you but can't work out what rpm would be at 60?? Don't want to buy all new tyers if the difference is minuscule!!

I not sure may be 5.3% lower
but must be better
or you could try 195/80/15 had this size on mine for a bit they are 27.3"
I must say they do rev bit high

standard jimny - for now
i think speedos in cars are caibrated to read approx 5% fast. you will be able to check this if you have a sat nav with a speed setting. think i'm just about correct on 195 muds. bigger tyres will give taller gearing and slightly reduce revs but at the expense of your low down gearing. that's why we struggle with the hills etc with bigger tyres.
another thing to bear in mind when working out tyre diameters etc, is that i think the online tyre size calculators are based on normal road tyre treads. hence a mud in any size will come up bigger again .

OK. Thanks guys. Priced up the cheapest today, £260. Fitted. I think i will wait until somebody who has them fitted can tell me if it's worth the expense. I love the motor but i'm worried that it will kill itself on a 260 mile M-way trip. Thanks for the thoughts.
