As I understand you are not allowed to make any modifications, but I'm sure Renard will be able to confirm this. However there are a lot of modified vehicles in France, not just 4x4s. it even includes things like removing the back seats, unless you get the Carte Grise (V5) changed. When I took mine for its first Controle Technique (MOT), incidentally when it was 4 years old, I had a long chat with the examiner who basically said my job is to check the lights, suspension, tyres etc and as long as they meet the requirements then I will pass it. As regards the modifications you know you are not allowed to make them and therefore its your risk if you are stopped. As part of the test they also check shock absorber function, and look at the ECU via its OBD11 socket to see if there are any error codes shown. Both these seem quite a good idea in terms of safety. However the test is only every 2 years.

Yes, you are not allowed to make any modifications, However there are a lot of modified vehicles in France. If your insurance is ok in UK, no problem for use your jimny in France.

I pay 383€ insurance for the year.
