Hi, how receptive are jimny to ultimate grade fuels? I have found that ours doesn't like supermarket fuel so I'm currently on bp normal. Dotthey really show an improvement if they have super fuel or is it just a placebo because it costs more?

I used to run.both the Jimny & the Mrs BMW on Tesco petrol. Both rewarded our savings with an EML.

After using only Shell as a preferred fuel of other proper fuel suppliers since, not a single issue.

Both showed codes for Cat efficiency out of range yet both had good emissions.

Our BMW technician friend who now is an independent new Mini specialist from a BMW main agent refused to change a cat on the basis of them never going, tested & moved the lambda sensors over to the other cat but still the same code came up, do he was flumoxed.

I told the Mrs to stop using anything but Shell & after a couple of tanks through the system, nothing has happened since.

The same with the Jimny.

Luckily for us we have 3 Shell stations in our area who are competing with Tesco, Asda & Sainsburys, so they are the same price & on occasions a penny per litre cheaper!

If the Mrs uses her Tesco clubcard credit card she still gets the points too! There's an Esso nearby that does the clubcard points too but my Ignis daily motor needs 98 Ron & they only go up to 97.

You'll be lucky to get much out of Super Unleaded on a Jimny. Maybe a few more mpg but just by changing from supermarket fuel it will make it better.

So what you are saying is they're fussy but not precious. Branded but not premium. That seems fair enough. Cheers.

I only use standard Tesco and Esso fuel for the clubcard points but I the following on Martin Lewis's site,
(full article www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheaper-fuel )

Only use 'better fuel' if your car can cope.
Many petrol stations sell 'high performance' fuels, yet there's little or no performance difference for most non-performance cars. So only fill up with the super-fuels if you've a sports car you've been specifically advised will actually utilise the petrol correctly.

The AA tells us that for most, high performance fuels are too pricey for regular use. But if you're keen, it suggests using three tankfuls in a row to keep the engine clean and efficient, then revert to normal fuel.

I don't think much of moneysavingexpert to be honest. We all know where to get the cheapest fuel locally and don't need him to tell us it's cheaper to buy. It's not cheaper in the end when it buggers your car up!

I regularly get vouchers giving me 5p off per litre of Tesco fuel. It goes straight in the bin and I go to the Shell 1/4 of a mile away on the way home.

I suspect the aa are referring to cars that usually run on 95 Ron. If it is meant to run on super it must run on super or you will get running problems eventually. The ignition timing will be all wrong and the fuel won't burn as it should.

If you can't afford to run a performance car on performance fuel, don't buy it.

Jimnys are fine on good quality 95 Ron, just not cheap rubbish 95 Ron!

Thorney Motorsport withdrew their longstanding support of Tesco 99 momentum after prolonged use but refused to say why. They must have had good reason to shun such sponsorship!
