Trivial question manifold guard

Just about every time I have removed it from my other Suzukis I have found a cracked manifold. I was wondering if it created heat build up or something leading to the cracking. On two of my previous Vitaras, a 1990 and a 1992, once I had rerouted the air intake to a bonnet scoop I took the shield off. They were normally aspirated but the thing had served a purpose sending hot air to the intake valve on the filter housing. Same with my SJ but there I had the K&N air filter on top of the carb. As you say, in all cases I never noticed any difference with the cover gone.

Easy then dont remove it and you wont find any cracks its there for some reason so personally i would leave it alone

Lots gets junked as I go round the motor from seats to badges.

In Jimny's with air con the hoses go right past the manifold. Also in left hand drive Jimny's the steering column would probably get pretty close to the manifold as well. So maybe the guard stops heat getting on to them if you have them...

I had a Sierra (samurai) for 15 years before marriage, mortgage and babies. At some point I pulled it’s cover off, and it caused no issues for at least 10 years.
The funny bit is with the new Jimny when I shut down in the garage I can hear a slow tick noise from the engine bay. Opened the bonnet and remembered the sierra used to do it as it cooled down, before it was removed.
My guess is to reduce under bonnet heat when doing crawling 4WD over rocks ETC
That’s a good thing as tightly packed FWDs, at least in hot Australia wear out other components from under bonnet heat soak. With the Jimny there’s enough free space to get some air flow and help keep the ancillaries temperatures down.

Went and took a close look and the AC pipes are well below the level of the manifold so I don't think the guard on or off will make any difference.
