oops shock towers not ment to do that was created by Chalky08
Hi folks has anyone had the same problem, I was out doing some trials in my Jimny at the weekend and got stuck in a bomb hole, well not really stuck just couldn't get out on the first attempt, On the second attempt I over cooked it and went airbourne out of the hole. I came down quite heavy on the front end, this pushed both shockers through the shock towers. I have done the same silly thing in my old Vitara lots of times without any major damage. Are Jimny's not made as tough? and has anyone got any suggestions on how to beef up the towers.

It sound to me that you're front bump stops are to short as you shouldn't be able to completely close you're shocks! By doing this you are affectively using you're shocks as bump stops and as you've found they are definatly not designed for it!

if its just shoved the rods up thru the holes you can probably just beat it back flat and weld a big 12mm penny washer over the top and as the guys say you may need to adddress your bump stop issues

Are you running any suspension lift?

I have a 2 inch lift and haven't extended my bump stops. Should I? Does this need done at the rear too?

I had a vit before my jimny with a 2 inch lift and never worried about it and it didn't cause me any problems! Although there is a quite a few good reasons for why you should!
1. Stop the shocks closing
2. Stop the coils becoming bound
3. If you run a larger than standard tire size they can limit upwards travel and helping to stop rub
4. They can actaully help increase droop

Hope that helps cant think of any other reasons!
