Halfords caliper paint - rubbish or just me? was created by GuardianAngel
I have been painting a caliper I am refurbishing for bloody ages now (several weeks in fact). I have followed all the instructions:
- Removed all the loose rust (using a wire brush and Dremel)
- Degreased using brake cleaner (as recommended on the tin)
- Thin coats, leaving for the prescribed time period
But, went out today and the paint is still tacky (last paint was well over a week ago). This stuff never seems to dry! Been on the WWW and lots of complaints about it being crap and never curing.
So, am I doing anything wrong? Is there a better quality paint out there that I should use?

The maximum operating temperate for Hammerite "Metal on Rust" paint is 150 degrees Celsius, and I don't image that the calipers would get that hot?

Paint still not hardened so its now soaking in a tub of brake fluid. Will strip the paint and get some red Hammerite smooth.

Take it out of the brake fluid as it eats into the metal and paint wont stick to it very well
