I would have thought the ABS would still be active as i can't see any reason for it to do otherwise.

well i have a little argument with a friend of mine who claims that the ABS system has to be auto disengaged when shifted into 4X4 (and 4X4 low), I have a 2005 none vvt jimny so at the moment I don't have enough info to claim my truth, all thought a jimny is made very simple so i doubt it acltualy disasemble itself, maybe other more expancive off roaders have this abuility but I'm realy not sure about the Jimny

Abs doesnt normaly work under 30mph so if youare off roading you wont go fast enough to test it unless in a big field plus i dont think the jimny is high tech enough to have that sort of kit to be honest iv never come across it on any 4wd and how much does your friend no about cars

almost everything you said is legit but in my opinion 30MPH? it's too much, how possible you can go to an icy intersection pushing the brake pedal on lets say 5mph and if the cars ABS won't work you'll just be locking the wheals and keep on sliding, which means the ABS system doesn't worth anything at winter?

it's obvious that the car has a minimum speed for the ABS to engage (because if it doesn't the car just eventualy will never lock the wheels to a full stop) but i don't think it actualy depends on speed but on tracktion of the wheels, if the car feel lose of tracktion even at 5mph i know the ABS engages itself, i was slipping on an icy intersection on about 5-10kmh and the ABS was working (it's important to mention that it was a 2000 make Grand EM which didn't had any ESP system in it)
