My 2005 jimny seems to have some flecks of rust coming through on the roof, noticed it when washing it yesterday as it was rough to the touch.

I didnt think the bodywork was supposed to rust? Anyone else get this?

You wash the roof!? Your Jim isn't high enough! Haha :)

How ever that dose sound weird I havnt had any problems myself and havnt heard any other reports

Has the paint been chipped? Or has it bubbled up from under the paint?

You need to determine what the problem is.

Something may have dropped on the paint e.g. bird poo or nasty corrosive tree sap.

There may have been a dent in the roof that hasn't been repaired very well

Someone like Ed China may have been using an angle grinder near it and the hot sparks burnt into the paint to go rusty (He never puts anything on paintwork on his TV program)

Try rubbing compound to see if it is above the paint.

The roof (away from the edges of the panels and the roof bar mountings) is about the only part of mine that isn't rusty

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Someone had installed an alternative aerial on the roof of mine at the rear. It looked like it was because the OE aerial was broken. I repaired it then removed the aftermarket one (which was rubbish) and guess what.........yesssssss, lots of rust around the crudely drilled hole. Roofs like mine rust.

Brake dust from trains dont suppose you park near a train line My ex Father in law worked at a Merc dealer ship years ago and they parked some new cars next to the railway embankment and hey presto brake dust ate thru the paint and all ended up having to be resprayed
