Jimny Questrion? How well do they drive? was created by wildfowler.250
Hi, first attempt at a post so bear with me...
I'm considering getting a second hand jimny for around a couple of thousand to use for shooting. I really only need a 4x4 for getting the last mile from the main road to where I need to park the car to go shooting,(usually a muddy or snowy farm lane).
Now I've heard nothing but good things about the jimny offroad. But what is it like driving from A to B on the main roads? I'm not expecting wonders but I've heard they are pretty poor?
I was also looking at a jimny but it had been raised 3 inches. Should I stay clear of it because of this?
If you have any other suggestions for a small 4X4 for running around in then it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Of course the handling is "poor" if you are comparing the Jim to some street race bimmer or something, but instead you should compare it to other solid axle trucks, and I would say Jimny will(well, almost...) blow the competition out of the water in that field!
Heck, even my Jim with 3" suspension lift and 33" tires drives better than most other solid axle trucks(not to mention other offroad trucks, because there's no contest compared to Jimny's handling!), and I think Jeep GC WJ is almost the only one that comes close... But that's only in lower than ~60mph speeds, because Jimnys aren't made for high speed driving, especially those with mods.
Only in the snow and ice Jimny might be a bit hand full to drive if you have no experience driving short wheel base trucks.
And those are just my opinions!

Like any swb 4wd they are skittish on Tarmac, although they're not as bad as some - but also not as good as others (land cruiser). But they're a smile to drive, especially off-road, and not expensive to own (unless you get mods fever). A nice, mostly, reliable little fun truck.
But, buy the wife a sports bra if you don't like being beaten around the head by her mazoomas. I've got to enjoy that part of it and deliberately search out speed bumps. At my age I'm grateful for any attention.

I'm talking earlier motors now..........I can't afford later ones and anyway, I don't believe in new motors on principle.
I liken it to the Vitara but the Vit is more skittish and prone to sideways hopping while the Jimny goes straight better but bounces more.
Ride wise, Jimny is possibly the worst I've experienced (in 4x4) barring a little Panda I once had; it is just like my SJ but I carry on with this branch of Zuki cos I like the smallness which leads to cheap to run, easy to jack up and fix and so not so costly. Even my Pajero is a bit harsh but it is more what you'd expect a 4x4 to be; the Jimny is less. When I swap back to the Mitsy it is like heaven.
