Door mirror glass
I think the mirror is just sold as a complete unit now hence the uncertainty about it being sealed??
This also helps if you want to replace/paint the outer cover

Feel free to stick this on the how to's Martin if you wish

I started off high and worked my way down ever since

Right, took the glass out and it is not going to go back in a hurry. Why, because the means by which it is held in place seems to have been broken in the past and glued back together.
Check out the pics - note that the motor part seems unlike the ones in the pics earlier unless I have a different view.

There is a centre strip on the motor unit that locates in a corresponding slot in the plastic at the back of the glass. The centre strip has sheared off at some time and I can see the glue that had been used to stick it back. It therefore did not take much for me to re-break it and pull the mirror off. I am going to have to hold the mirror glass in place with elastic bands.
Take a close look at the slot of plastic and you'll see the broken bit in there.
So now I don't really know what to do for the best. I should have left it in place though I guess the glass would eventually drop out.

looks like a new mirror required.
Plenty on ebay!
You could try a large dollop of sealant in the centre and press the mirror in to place while sitting in the car to get the correct angle until it dries or use tape?
The mirror is useless anyway and it might do until you get another.
I think there are a few people breaking jimnys in the for sale/wanted ads on here.
Might be worth contacting them.
