right parked my other car up (2003 a4 tdi avant) someone hit it rear quarter and left details,going through her insurance now got courtesy car costing 160 pluss vat a day, garage rang to let me know need new rear quarter,chop old one off weld new one on. they only use genuine audi parts ,so that will be over a grand and it will be about 2 week from early next week when they get approval from independent engineer.cars probly worth 3-4 grand.what i want to know urgently is do they take into acount hire car cost when wrighting a car off.had hire car since yesterday.(3600 in hire costs it will be pluss cost of new rear quarter pluss paint n the place is were audi send ther cars to be repaired.) thanks for any info guys its a bit of a mine field when you actually want to make a claim.

As far as I know the answer is "yes". This is why some cars end up as Cat D write offs instead of Cat C. A Cat C write off is uneconomic to repair full stop, whereas a Cat D is uneconomic to repair when all the other costs (such as ongoing car hire) are taken into account.

Look into it a bit more, the hire car costs are where claims are bumped up. Have a look on honestjohn there's been loads on there about it. Essentially the claim is prolonged to get more out of the hire charge. Another side of it is where the claimant with the hire car signs an agreement without looking at the small print and long story short ends up accountable for the hire fees!

2 weeks seems a long time even for a busy bodyshop.
