I've always been told never clean the engine as it hides leaks?

Surely if you clean the engine you can source the causde of the leak if there is one?

I have cleaned my engine... Used abit of acid free wheel cleaner and stayed away from electronic connections

just watch the black felt attached to the firewall... I thought it was moldy... it wasnt.. it has green material behind the black felt that disintergrates when you power wash it!
