I have at present  another petrol car in which I use premium unleaded & never had any issues.
However I have been reliably advised not to use 'cheap' fuel.
Fuel Pumps & Fuel Regulators have failed with a strong indication many due to supemarket fuel .......

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

All the Tescos supermarkets round here sell ESSO fuel
I put some magic fluid (BG44K fuel system cleaner) in the fuel tank of my 110,000 mile jimny, the boys on the forum for The Other Car recommended it, and unbelievably, it has eliminated the lumpy tickover, after only 30 miles
Could be coincidence that I did 30 miles at 4100 RPM though and that would have cleared it out anyway.
Will have to see how the rest of the tankful goes...

It could be your petol station has a bad batch of fuel, i work in garden machinery repair, and some of the machines can be a bit fussy on fuels, lately we have had alot of stuff comming in to us not running, first thing we check is the petrol tanks as often they are contaminated with a fair bit of water or diesel, the majority of cases the customers have got their fuel from super markets but on one occasion the customer thought they had bought esso fuel, obviously there are many ways the diesel and water could have got into the petrol, but there has been a steep rise in the amount of machines coming in this year compared to last with this problem, which makes me think it could be coming out of the pumps this way.
Ive used momentum recently in my evo 8 because the local shell station was closed, i didnt really notice any difference between that and v power, the car did wind a bit longer before it fired up from cold but it was much colder weather than i usually use it in, i still only use shell unless i cant get anything else. Higher ron petrol makes no noticeable difference in the jimny.

All petrol in the UK has had about 5% bio-ethanol in it for a few years by order of the government and has recently increased to 10% and is due to increase to 15% but I can't remember when.
It can cause degradation of older cars rubber gaskets and hoses but I think Jim jams are ok.
I had a problem with the eml keep coming on in my Mrs 2000 BMW 325i. The code was for the first cat. I had the lambda sensors checked and they were fine and even had them swapped for those on the second cat as they are the same part but the same code came up for the first cat. BMW's cats do not fail generally as they are so close to the manifold they get hot quick and are uber good quality.
I found the solution. I told the Mrs to stop using Tesco fuel and only use a proper brand like the Shell less than a mile from Tesco who price matches Tesco and us often first to reduce the price.
Her eml has not been on since and we now avoid all supermarket fuels in all our vehicles.
No need to go high octane, just good quality 95 Ron does.

I agree, I'll only use a branded fuel (mainly Shell).
Supermarket fuel is only for an emergency!
