JIMNY TOWING ? 1300KG BRAKED was created by jo king
Just got some info from a trailer company in honiton and was shown that a 2001 hard top jimny can tow 1300 kg braked and 750kg unbraked in the uk... The guide is for all makes of vehicle.
So if any one would be willing to show anything to the contrary I would be willing to see it...
The manual shows 350 kg braked and 450 kg braked... I myself will be buying a trailer 1300 kg capacity with an unladen weight of around 332 kg... I am going for braked as I had a scare around the lanes when I had to stop much to the disgust of the other driver who was traveling a bit quick for the blind corner...
If the trailer company can show this the that is good enough for me. provided I am covered by the insurance. I will post any thing I find out as soon as I know anything different.....

It states in the manual that the weights may differ depending on your country (or words to that effect).
I've got a braked box trailer with a payload of 1150kg iirc. She tows a treat but its like a big air brake sometimes. If you're going new then i'm sure you are anyway but i'd go for a twin axle. Mine is single and it is horrible when loaded near to its limit. It takes some moving too when laden. Once you eventually get it up to a sensible speed it tows fine and cruises lovely. I take the approach personally that i don't fancy doing more than 45/50 anyway with potentially 2500kg train to reign in.
I just moved house with mine and the only problem would be the clutch suffered a bit when reversing especially as theres a bit of a slope on my drive.
It also depends on your licence as it falls foul of it if you're on a post 97.
Here she is on tow duty:
The big williams trailer i was just moving for someone, its a brillian trailer and i didn't even need the brakes on the car to slow down. If i backed off the trailer slowed me enough!

I'm pretty sure my manual says 1300kg braked and mine's a 1999.
