caravans
Other than it being warmer and drier its not offering much more than a tent and airbed. For just 2 people you can get a tent for peanuts carry all your kit and even a pair of bikes on the back door or roof.
Lets face it with most sites offering serviced pitches campings not roughing it anymore.
Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

I built mine myself thus saving the expense:

I've done loads of camping but got sick of putting a tent up and down in the wet so made the teardrop caravan so I can just chuck it on the back of the car and go anywhere. I absolutely love it, 240v, 12v, heating (was like a sauna when I went camping in the snow with the heating on max), lights, fridge, tv and if it rains you can just sit on the sofa bed inside and cook in there. Also I'm 6' 4" and there is plenty of room for 2 people inside:

I also had a teardrop caravan which the Jimny pulled quite easily all over Oz. But it is a drag on fuel and performance.
Now I have a Toyota Dyna truck that I load the Jimny on and tow a Cabana caravan behind if there are two or more of us, or just the Jimny and popup tent for me.
In Oz, my Jimny is rated at1100kg with electric brakes which I have on everything, 360kg unbraked.

BTW if anyone is up this way ( North Cumbria) a friend who is a farmer has a delightful tiny campsite which is 2 minutes walk from The Old Crown Inn at Hesket Newmarket, the is owned by a cooperative of village dwellers (not falling for the old Village People jokes!) with a brewery around the back, Prince Charles pops in and approves of the venture- Google it
