How strong are the towing eyes on the jimny would they make good recovery points, or do they need altering?

DO NOT use the towing/lashing eyes for recovery - that is not what they are designed for. You might get away with it but if it let go with tension on a tow/or winch rope the resulting whipback of the rope with the lashing eye attached could maim or kill you or someone else. I saw a picture of a Range Rover some time back that had attempted a recovery of another stuck truck, the recovery point failed and went through the rear screen, creased along the inside of the roof and then smashed the windscreen from the inside - it just missed the drivers head...........whatever you use must be up to the job and be attached to a strong piece of the chassis - you have been warned!!
I think the Big Jimny shoppe has a recovery point available for the front and a towbar should do at the back although a jaw on it rather than a loop of rope over the towball is preferable.....
Paul.
