4 Wheel Drive Working?? was created by peterlinda@hotmail.co.uk
Hi I am a novice Jinmyer and have just bought my first Jimny. As it is under warranty for 3 months from the garage I bought it from I wanted to ensure the 4 wheel drive is working properly.
Can anyone tell me a simple and bsic test for this? When I put it into 4 wheel drive I get a steady green light on the dash.
Many thanks,

Pete Wild

Put the handbrake on, put the gearbox in Neutral, start the engine.

Jack up ONE front wheel, make sure all the other wheels are on the ground.

Put the transfer box in 4WD, listen for a loud click from the hub and try and turn the car
wheel by hand. If the wheel turns then it has not locked.

If it has locked then move the transfer box out of 4WD, listen for a loud click and try and
turn the wheel by hand. If the wheel turns then it has unlocked ok.

Repeat for other front wheel.

Park on a big gravel car park get a mate to watch and drop the clutch - see if all four wheels spin!

Or get it stuck in the muddiest hole open both front windows and if you and aforementioned mate(now in passenger seat) get muddy from the wheels spinning its working!

Otherwise try the more sensible options before!

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!
