Bellerophon (2024 grello van) daily dose of disappointment.
I was surprised when I was making the decking for Bellerophon that actually the base out of temeraire fit exactly?
So the time has come to discuss what I should do to regain some significant bump from the stereo?
The system as it stands is a Sony 4x100 class D head unit feeding a pair of 130mm yellow series kickers in the front supported by a 200mm active pioneer underseat sub. Having lost the rear deck and therefore the rear footwell enclosure running a further pair of 175mm yellow kickers it's now effectively missing a good chunk of mid range go. It was never a pa system but could be heard.
Now I seem to remember that the rear door cards are too close fitting to the shell to allow the use of rings to increase the available diameter of the rear factory positioning hence the enclosure in the foot wells. A set of 100mm would I guess help a little but size does matter in this instance. Oh and whoever designed the door cards to have the seats come out to get at the speaker location is a plank.

I'm getting intrusive thoughts again about smaller road tyres and lower springs!

So these intrusive thoughts. I have found that I could get a cheaper all terrain in 205.60r15 which is a drop of 6% or 40mm off the diameter. It would come with the benefit of the speedometer being even lower than actual than it currently is while actively reducing acceleration time and improving braking and suspension reaction time as well as improving turn in. Not cheap though as I still have loads of life in the current tyres. Hmmm?

Ok so I have had chance to calm down and assimilate the big jimny meeting. I have a couple of takeaways. First the chonky boi tyres are staying. They demonstrated a very compelling argument in their own favour. Coupled with the refreshed suspension and clearance and general traction are spot on. However. I did find a shortcoming. It seems that the ability to climb rocks specifically with one front tyre high is limited. This could have been a function of being double stepped i.e. the front and rear trying to climb 2 steps at the same moment which is a wheelbase thing. Or alternatively a lack of vertical wheel movement. I'm looking at options, best and also least likely one or more quaife diffs, cool but no budget. Next is a mini lift using eibach 20 to 25mm springs, I'm not overly keen as generally I'm not having issues with wheel clearance and it's the wheels that set axle clearance and I didn't really worry the transfer guard all day but I wasn't trying to let the red mist descend. Also I really like the way it all currently works together on tarmac.
Oh and for those not paying attention at the back, yes I have lost all my ambition towards fast road because reasons.
