Finished off the breathers today! Thanks to reading a post on here about fitting breathers... it inspired me to have another look at the gearbox breather...
Lying on my back in the garage I could spot the breather poking out in the transmission tunnel... Strange, as I'd always read that getting to the gearbox breather was a real chore?
Closeup... there's just a little bit of rubber pipe on the breather tube and then a small plastic cap on it...
So I reached up and pulled the cap off, and used that as a reference to order a reducer - 8mm internal pipe to 6mm plastic tube to match what is supplied in Martin's / BigJimny's excellent breather kit...
The reducer fitted perfectly into the end of the existing breather rubber tube, and the tube supplied with Martin's / BigJimny's breather kit fitted in perfectly...
And the other end of the tube plugs into the manifold blog I added to Martin's / BigJimny's breather kit (as my Rockwatt Rocklobster transfer box already had a 10mm elbow connected to it when I got it)
You may remember, the right hand 10mm black tube goes back to the transfer box, the 3 smaller 8mm tubes pointing down go to the front and rear axles, and now the gearbox breather, whilst the left one heads up to the snorkel's head -
And is neatly held to the genuine Safari snorkel with a couple of plastic P-Clips on the mounting bolts...
Breathers Complete!

Another job today... fix the "death wobble"... last time out greenlaning it was happening at all sorts of speeds, and lots of times... frustrating! So I vowed today to find out what was wrong! Armed with a list of things to check, and it what order, I soon discovered -
... that the panhard rod mounting holes have been elongated. I could hear metal on metal rattling last trip out, but I assumed the bushes had gone... I didn't think it would be this!
So I drilled some 6mm plate, to make a couple of new mounting plates...
And then thought I'd need one for the axle end too -
So I made a third one...
I then bolted them in place and then...
Welded them in place...
And then went for a test-drive........................... ALL SORTED!

Next job...
Recently, when pulling off in first, or when the engine is under-load offroading, I've heard a "fluttering" and suspected that the rear engine / gearbox mount had gone...
So, I ordered one from this very store - www.bigjimny.com/store/index.php?_a=product&product_id=215
Here it is -
And, when I took the old one out...
I was indeed right, the original one had delaminated, and the "fluttering" noise was the engine and gearbox moving on the mount when under load...
Jack under the gearbox, unbolt the old mount, pop in the new one...
And then tighten it all up -
Another test-drive, and we're all ready for another days 'laning this coming Sunday... the now traditional Christmas / New Year trip with Brett's Sausage Rolls and my wife's Mincemeat Roulades
I feel a blog coming on?
