This why I have one. I don't need to worry if I need a hardware upgrade I can just pick up a game and play. Sure the graphics aren't as good but the plug and playness suits my budget and lifestyle better.helijohn wrote:

Don't panic, I possibly won't change from W7.
However, I believe I need to replace the AMD Radeon 5450. Do you agree? Let me put it another way, how poor is the Radeon compared to the GeForce 610 or 9800GT. Now I have fitted the 550w PSU I feel I need to upgrade something.
Above all I want the catalyst to work. If the 610 will do better than the radeon I'll fit one.

I wanted to switch over to PC gaming because I got sick of new consoles coming out every few years. I still have my PS3 and Xbox 360! So now I find that they are bringing out a new Xbox and a new PS in a few years. It's ridiculous.
Having said that I soon realised that the world of PC gaming is clouded in tech talk and double dutch. Even when I wanted to download an older Steam game Lost Planet 2) I was bewildered by the tech spec needed.
Truth be said I am only on Xbox One for the upcoming GoW 4. I went to PS4 because a friend is on there. When we were on PS3 (he hates Xbox!!) we had some good co-op (Dead Space and such) fun. But now I am finding co-op games are in the decline. Yes there are CoD and a few others but like Fallout 4, many are solo play.
I have phases - sometimes I prefer PS and sometimes Xbox but since PS now charge for PS+ there is little between them. I played PS3 for years as it was free on co-op games.

Yes, that is something else I found out, beneath the tech talk lies a very distinct feeling the PC players are trying to achieve Utopia no matter what the cost and outdo each other..
Incidentally, I just bought a cheap razer wildcat. I found that in games like Rise of the Tomb Raider weapon switching on the run was a PITA (I'm a shooter player); taking the thumb off the L stick to hit the D pad was really hissing me off and has always done so in my fav game GoW.. I considered the Elite but didn't like the paddles too much and thought they were not going to be in the right places for me plus all the online chat suggested t was better for RPG and such. Also being wired I don't get that damn batteries are low trouble.
All I can say is WOW, it's a doozy. I have gotten all the buttonry sorted and love it. It is really lag free too - no dead spots. So now I am having an Xbox phase.
