Something to pull my Jimny around with!!

Anyone on here got one of these??
Been harbouring a bit of a yearning for a while, want to go travelling with the Jimny behind me :whistle:




Looking for inside information...upsides, downsides...any oddballs to look for......... :whistle:

Instead of getting a big fuel-guzzling Chevvy van to tow your Jimny around on Hols, why not just take your Jimny and tow one of the teardrop caravans around. I've posted one up separately so as not to hijack your thread.

Getting a Jimny hooked up behind a van is not cheap, whether you go "A" frame or Trailer Carry. "A" frame or "Dolly tow", at least in Australia, requires tapping into the towed-vehicles brakes to provide breaking and is hard on the Jimny in so many ways. Trailer-carry is just uneconomical and restricts where you can go.

Thought you was getting a lightweight van to tow behind the jim?

It's still an option, Dan and Ian ....here's the one I'm considering at the moment...




This idea holds a great deal of appeal for both of us, and if we lived where you live, Ian, I'd have already parted with my cash (the visual impact is worth the money on its own :whistle: )
However, as you well know, we are at the mercy of the great British weather here, and for two people, these things are more or less just somewhere to lay your head. Getting up twice a night for a tinkle is no mean feat in one of these, which raises the subject of an additional awning (complete with Portaloo!!)
The addition of an awning would, I imagine, give the whole concept a much greater versatility (the more I write, the more I'm selling myself the idea .
The Jimny's towing limit of 350kg unbraked might be a concern....the one in the pic is unbraked and I might have to consider converting it to be on the safe side...it's not a light as your's, Ian, especially when it's carrying all the sea angling gear known to man :whistle:

Appreciate your comments, Ian, and by and large you are dead right. Towing the Jim on a braked car transporter (which I already have) was never going to be an issue...I already pull it behind my Grand Cherokee, which I'm considering selling at the end of this season, and I confess to having never been much of an eco-warrior regarding fuel consumption.

The idea of a mid-sized American camper has always appealed....think they just suit my nature...big and lazy :whistle: :whistle: , but see my post above this one and you might just spot a slight change of attitude!!

There are a lot of other options for small caravans out there. Some of the lightweight fibreglass ones (like top gear used for the airship) are excellent. I think i personally would look at folding vans for a jimny because of the low level while towing, Also a lot of the more modern ones are fully fitted with with kitchen and washroom/loo, Obviously price dependant.
