Thank you folks. The shovel will be my weapon of choice.
BTW It doesn't bother me that somebody messed up a lane accessible for 4x4s, tractors and small tanks only. Local farmers have a new, hard surfaced access road running parallel just next to it. Walkers and cyclists have a footbridge on the right, not visible in my pic. Just wanted to know if digging on the public road is a sort of faux pas.
Waffle boards and winches are planned, but now I can only resort to a micro shovel and a bit of engineering ingenuity :laugh:

Whereabouts is the lane? Maybe someone close to you would go for a run with you. Always better laning with others if possible.

Lane is in Herts, near Aldenham Country Park. I'm not that worried, car will probably cope, if not i will have to dig it out, maybe sellotape the bumper :laugh:
I say that again. My main question was about legality and social acceptance of digging up public byways when the need arises. It's a grey area, but according to you mostly OK...ish :laugh: Problem solved. Thanks!
