On the road my special tracks are so loud I often forget to change gear and end up on the limiter in 3rd lol!

It's a viscous fan. It is driven by the engine via a viscous fluid. The hotter the engine, the thicker the viscous fluid becomes, making the fan spin faster. When the engine is cold, the fluid is thin and the fan barely turns. Very simple, very efficient.
