advice on the dark-side .......

Defenders .. hmm... If you want to spend silly amounts of time doing jobs that really shouldn't need to be done, live with crap build quality, spend a fortune on fuel, oil and random parts then go for it.

Just get used to the weather being the same inside and out (hot if its hot, cold if its cold, and bloody wet when it rains!!!)

I am happy with the compromises, but you would have to REALLY want one!!

I would stay away from anything newer than a TD5 tbh. The new versions (curvy dash and no bulkhead vents) are not only bloody expensive, but seem to be less reliable than the old tractor versions.

My choice in retrospect would be a 1998ish 300tdi or a 2003 onwards TD5.

my jimny is no better on fuel then my 300tdi landy to be fair bits are also a lot cheaper
