I am running XP Professional.
I seem to be having loads of trouble with Windows Media Player.
I want to transfer some CDs to the PC. It seems fine for ripping and burning copy CDs. It used to be simple.
TBH I don't know what is going on.
In my Albums list I have three albums but they generate the error notice:
"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted."
I tried deleting them but they still sit there as disobedient files.
What I want to do is clear all traces of any music in WMP and then copy a few of my favourite CDs to the PC.
I connected an MP3 player a little while back and copied one of the Albums (Police) on to it. It seemed fine so I wanted to add another. I thought I'd try the sync button and then I hit trouble - it seemed to double everything, every track, so there is an echo now with it. Arghhhhhhhhh.
I tried to delete all this nonsense on the PC and it won't go away.
I expect there is a copy of each damn tune somewhere hiding in the PC which smartass WMP keeps looking at but I really don't know.
I just want to put some CDs on to the PC and listen to them and copy them on to the MP3 player to listen to while gardening.
I am just praying someone can help me pleeeeeeze.

In Ubuntu 14.04, you simply load the CD then click open CD and then drag whichever track you want onto the desktop or into the Music File or into a fresh Folder. To put it onto a Portable Music player or the phone, you just plug in the device and drag the track/s across to the device and job is done.
Even I can do that

Ps If your device is already connected to the computer you can drag the track directly to it as I have just tried that and then played the Dylan track from my IRiver

Now that's all I am asking for. Put the album on the PC and copy the album I want to MP3 player or make a car copy CD etc.
My problem is that WMP is still showing albums but when I try to rip from them they albums don't exist. WMP is full of deleted junk or whatever and it won't go away. I'd reinstall it if I had the know how.
