Buying tyres online is not as stupid as I thought was created by Jesse12
I enjoy saving a few pounds as much as the next person, but I did not think buying tyres online made sense. What was I going to do with four tyres delivered to my door? I did not have the equipment to put them on, balance the tyres, and then dispose of the old ones.
I was convinced by the time you bought tyres online, took them to a shop, and had them mounted, you would spend more pounds than if you just bought them at a local shop.
I was sitting in the office on lunch break, watching my cohort shopping for tyres, and told him my opinion. He asked how much I paid for my last set of tyres, what brand, what size, and then he turned his laptop around and showed me the price. I was mad. The price was 30% lower than what I paid, but then I blurted out my regular defense, “How much you gonna pay to have them mounted?”
I typed in my postcode and found out I could have the tires mounted about a kilometer from the office. Now I was really angry. I paid 30% more and drove more. My wife's car was due for a new set of tyres, so I punched in her car information and found the prices were about 20% lower than the best quote I had found so far. It was one of those “what the heck” moments.
I guess it is not so stupid to buy tyres online. Maybe it is people like me who resist change that are the stupid ones.

think you're right reaper
one has to agree that online tyre sites are great, the best one is www.blackcircles.com/
however, it's even better to print out their quote and take it to your local fitter and have them match the quote.

We live in a rural area and all the local tyre fitters dont stock 4x4 tyres in the size i use and have no interest in getting them for me. I have no option but to buy online then get someone to fit them which any of them will do at about £60 including balancing. I guess as they are independent companies they just can't compete with online tyre prices.
standard jimny - for now

Hi Rob
I know what you mean about rural difficulties for "anything" my father who's rural has to pay a fortune for any trade work compared to me in the town.
did you try putting your postcode into the www.blackcircles.com/ "fitting" centres ? I chose a random North Devon postcode and found a couple of centres 13 and 9miles away ... and those particular fitting centres would get more cash if you give to them the order direct as opposed placing the your order with an online company selling you the tyre and giving the local company a payment for fitting the tyre for you.
don't get me wrong I think online companies are great and I'm not trying to do them out of business, but in my case with purchasing through an online co, they sent tyres to the local fitting company that had very thin beads (begs the question - are these A1 grade tyres) and I was lucky as my local fitting company rejected them and sent them back, when they could have easily fitted them giving me problems later on, and then I'd have the hassle of claiming against online and fitter liability ... you can imagine what a nightmare that could be
