rescued by the dog taxi ......

funny old day,

on our way shopping this morning ... going around a 3 lane round-about at the Queen Alexander Bridge (Sunderland) we spotted a poor little pooch dodging traffic looking bewildered.

A police car drove past ignoring it's plight so I blocked a lane, put the hazzards on, got a slip lead out the back and had the missus lasso the beast.

Moments later a panting stinky beast was in the passenger foot-well between the missus's legs :ohmy: ... steady

Fudge as he's known is now at the pound and I've a feeling he isn't going to be claimed, and I've a sneaking suspicion the missus will end up giving me a new family member to look after :S

Everytime I've seen dogs loose running about I've stopped and grabbed them, often on busy roads, whilst the owner is daydreaming or chatting to there friend 500m away in the park. Aggravates the hell out of me. The poor dog doesn't know better and quite frankly the owners don't deserve them most of the time.

Just over a year ago there was a dog running through a hedge and into a fast bit of road. We stopped and manage to call it over, we called the police, they were less than helpful telling us ' the dog warden had gone home for the day so would have to call tomorow ' it seems dogs only escape between 9.30 and 4. When the owner finally appeared it was a young girl I'm not joking she must have been 7-8 years old. Her parents had told her to take the dog for a walk over the park, quite frankly it was reckless as serious damage could have been caused to both the dog and road users/ pedestrians alike.

A second time more recently at the crossroads/lights at the end of the same bit of road there was a dog loose and running in and out of the road, whilst waiting for the lights I saw 2 cars have to slow down and swerve to avoid it. I waited for the lights to turn, pulled up where it was safe and ran back to try and find the dog only to see it running into the back garden of a house nearby, I knocked on the door to tell them what had happened, they lady that answered said 'oh it was our dog, it gets out all the time'. Seriously how long do they expect it to get away without harm.

On a more cheerful note recently my dad found a little terrier wandering down our road looking a little lost so called him over, the little thing was terrified, he took it to the vets as it had no collar, luckily it was chipped, and the address was local so he offered to return it. On getting it home it turns out it was an elderly lady that had left her door open and the dog had made its way out, she was over the moon to see him back and extremely grateful.

It is a genuine mistake when dogs get out sometimes of course and most dog owners would be devastated if there beloved pet manage to get out, just annoys we when it's people's ignorance that puts the poor dog at risk
