front axle binding

iv narrowed it down to
- drive shaft broken
- diff busted
- crown and pinion got some debris in teeth
does anybody know whats happening or had any similar problems as i want it fixed asap then i can get an MOT booked

i can move 5 meters or so then it just locks
if it was a cv surely it would be constant and when under pressure?

The one that would be causing the problem you're having, would more likely have seemed to be in pieces than fine.
If you have inspected them after the binding occurred, and they looked fine, then they sure aren't causing that.
Once my wheel bearings went on one side of my SJ's front axle, and that caused similar problems. But I don't think broken shafts or diff could cause that...

If it is still binding and the hubs are free and it is in 2wd you have a big problem.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

i know this but i have locked hubs so it all turns even when in 2wd all rotates smoothly then just binds.....really weird
