I seem to remember something about the ingredients used in American tyres don't necessarily meet European regs, which kinda killed off things like boggers and swampers not sure what the current situation is though if they are now compliant?

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.

Also check the weight. Especially if you use steel wheels. I was thinking about some kind of tires like these ones a couple of years ago but after checking their weight i ended up buying ordinary BFG MT and have been stuck with the brand since.

For offroad use only this of course is not a problem.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

If companies are selling them they must be OK.
Also
From memory.... My 15 year old Swampers TSL SXs that have passed several MOTs, have little Triangles with "E" or "EU" in them which is supposed to mean they're EU compliant, so get them before Brexit. The car even with those tyres passed a VIC test administered by what I can only assume was a LRO judging by his very unprofessional & biased comments he told me after passing it.
My 7 year old small West coast company, Parnelli Jones' just say "Fed DOT Approved" but an old set passed an MOT years ago.
There's also supposed to be a reciprocal trade agreement that if they meet US regulations they should meet ours. Shame it doesn't go the other way. I did have a policeman ask me if they were legal. I pointed it out & and said just that to him..... Shut him up and he was looking to get me.

I personally imported mine and several sets for friends who have never had problems with theirs. Something about personal import also goes someway to some sort of exemption.
Someone like NTWonline will ship the tyres for free anywhere in the US..... I took advantage of that & had them sent to a UK freight forwarder's office in NY who I'd already got a LCL (Lessthan Container Load) price for shipping to the UK. I then picked them up from the port when they arrived. After all the customs & taxes of only about 4% for car parts, (don't worry, nothing like VAT) it worked out that I got 5 tyres for less than the price of buying 4 in the UK.
Only took a few phone calls and emails.
If you're serious about going forward with this I have a great car guy contact in a Kent based freight forwarder who does my UK to US shipping.

Looking for a nice clean and straight LHD Jimny..... Not any more.
Got one that seems to have been magnatized and driven through the "Big Jimny Bits" parts stores too quickly so it missed a few items.
