Overweight towing

No, I don't mean the driver is overweight!

AND I AM NOT TALKING OF ROAD LEGAL TOWING.

Dave's excellent article on fitting a tow bar (see HERE ) got me thinking.

Would a Jimny in low range be able to pull a 1.5 Tonne Boat/Trailer combination out of the water and up the slipway in low range?

Would it be able to brake a reversing boat and trailer into the water (ie. not be pulled backwards into the water?)

Just thinking about a smaller, more maneuverable car to use around the marina/slipway.

I think it would be ideal for that in low range.
Obviously useless on the road!

put it this way, my jimny towed a 14' trailer ( 1 ton on its own) with at least 2 ton of weight across a field and deep clay working at
john terry's ( as in the foot baller)
basicly 3 tons

and its towed a landrover ( 2.5 ton) up walmer hill in haslmere if and one knows it?
probably the steepest hill I know
1.5 ton is pretty much the weight of a jimny its self, pulling it on low range really isn't your problem, as long as you
back up slowly, you should be fine

oh and a discovery 3 over cowdray estate in midhurst in 3ft of snow
they are much more capable than you think in towing another item heavier than the jimny it's self

I used to use a sj51 to launch and retrieve my boat, where I lived there were no real roads and boats had to be beach launched. The 1.3 with 6.5 trans gears was better to launch the boat then the wife's landcruiser troopcarrier.

Boat weighs around 1400kg and the trailer has good breaks.

My friend had a standard SJ and he pulled a Malibu Ski Boat up the slipway in low - just to see if it would cope. It pulled the boat out no problem but it is not something he would want to do often!!!!

I'm surprised that nobody has posted this video yet... However, with only 200 views, perhaps you guys haven't found it yet ;)
