Wheel spacers, what size :-/ was created by Ruby2
Hi All
I've just recently purchased a Jimny and am looking to do one or two 'steady' mods.
I'd like to put on some 'slightly' bigger tyres (but I do 90 odd% of my driving on Tarmac).
I've seen some 15mm spacers and am wondering :-
A, Are these strictly necessary for some tyres of a size
215/75/15
B, Do the spacers affect the road manners of the Jimny?
C, Do the spacers (of this size) put any unwanted stress on the suspension and drive train?
D, does putting a slightly larger tyre on affect the above and also the speedo reading?
This is the spacer I was looking at.
15mm Wheel Spacers, adding 30mm to the track (axle width) of your "new" Grand Vitara.
Superb quality, made from High Tensile Strength Aluminium Alloy.
Come with 20 slim wheel nuts as pictured above to attach these wheel spacers to your existing wheel studs, then you use your existing wheel nuts and locks (or some nice new ones are available in this store too!) to attach your wheels to these spacers.

Those spacers are for a new style grand vitara and wont fit a jimny, as the PCD is different.
You don't need them with 215/75/15
Road manners can improve sometimes
Yes larger tyres put the speedo reading out
And yes they do put extra stress on bearings.

Hi Supergaz
Thanks for the info
Would you advise sticking with the 215/75's for the odd encounter of off road, rather than going any larger and increasing the ride height and spacing the wheels?
I sort of cant get the cool looks of the bigger wheels and higher ride height/ wider footprint out of my mind

215/75/15 is the best compromise in tyre without killing gearing and is still pretty good off road. Going wider will kill fuel consumption.
For a daily car with some light greenlaning 215/75/15 is fine.

Thanks again Supergaz
I think we'll go as you suggest and just get some 215/75/15's to start with as you suggest and see how we go.

Hi Halford
It's a 05 year. But I think it's the old style of bumper. I'll have a look at some photos and confirm.

I've had a look at your pics of the front of your 07 and mine and I have the round fog light holes higher up at a level with the central grille and the black spoiler section does not go all the way across the bumper like yours.

cool, in that case follow Gaz's advice and get 215/75/15's AT's not muds as you mainly want them for on-road use and good snow traction.
think your current options are (in ascending price and desirability)
1. Toyo OPEN COUNTRY A/T
2. General Grabber AT
3. B.F GOODRICH 215/75R15 100S ATKO
have fun

Hi,
Just a note about the article:- Hi Richard
depends on the age of your car
post 2005 model with facelifted bumper - see SPC5838's post from a while back
Well - sorry to be controversial here, but i've been running BFG A/T 215/75 R15's on my 2006 Jimny JLX+ with factory alloys and my wife's 2007 Jimny (factory steel modulars) without any problems at all. Both vehicles are stock with no lift at all, - so these particular tyres do fit facelifted models without the need to trim the front wheelarches. We have done 76k and 45k on the tyres in both vehicles. Both vehicles are only used on the road, my wife commutes 400miles per week as well.
Other makes with far more aggressive treads may cause problems though.

Maybe a bit late here to give you some more info but I had my Maxxis MT 753 MUDs 215/75/15 fitted before my lift on my 2012 model Jimny. They rubbed a tiny bit on the inside of the front bumper. I just bent the 3 metal brackets holding the bumper a tiny bit forward. Just pulled it without tools etc.
Solved the rubbing.
I then installed an EFS 50mm lift kit and today I fitted the 32mm spacers. Still no rubbing, but I'm not sure on the articulation and catching on the inside pinch weld on the rear. I took a hammer to it and bent int flat just in case. Will have to take the JimJam out next weekend to test if it rubs anywhere.
