Where to source bits for a service?

I need to get my 2005 jimny serviced as I don't think it's had one for a while and want to keep it running sweetly!

A colleague at work was a mechanic so will do the work for me but I was wondering where would be best to source the oil, plugs and filters etc?
Also, is it published anywhere what actual items are required?

Cheers lads!

Oil: halfords when Castrol Magnatec 5w30 is on offer (Asda do it on offer most of the time)
Filters: motor factors.
Plugs: sparkplugs.co.uk or eBay if you don't mind risking overpriced Chinese copies.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I use Halford's own oil, it's made by Comma so is good stuff and you get 5L instead of the 4L that many other brands come as, so you get some for topping up also - not that my Jimny ever uses any oil!

Cheers mate! I wasn't sure whether to use Castrol edge full synthetic or Castrol magnatec 10w 40 semi synthetic. What spec is the halfords own? Don't suppose you can remember the price?

The Jimny specifies 10w30, a VVT engine needs 5w30. (The 1st number is to do with the cranking resistance when cold, so I doubt if 5 or 10 makes any difference when it is running)

10w40 is allowed in the chart in the handbook, if you have the choice, get 10w30 over 10w40, as it will help the mpg ;)

If you are buying Halfords oil, wait until they have an "offer" like "free" screwdriver set, as it is well overpriced otherwise.

Any semi-synthetic with a brand that you have heard of will do, I've even used the Wilkos stuff.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

If going to halfords, always get a trade card if possible. There are some big discounts avaiable.
